We have been known to travel for two hours to get a decent cup of coffee, this was when we were living in Kaikoura NZ, we would travel to Christchurch to have a coffee at “The Coffee-smiths.” No longer there due to the earthquakes.

So my other half suggested the other day, that we could go down to Brisbane to see our little B, short for our daughter. I said we will travel through the night, and be in Eumundi QLD, just as this particular coffee cafe opened. It is a ten hour drive from where we live, but the coffee is so good.

I was not disappointed, The staff are friendly and the owners are very passionate about dsc_0981coffee which is of course a key criteria for any serious expresso bar/speciality coffee shop. Humdrum coffee do the best coffee on the coast, you know how a bad coffee can leave you with a bad taste in your mouth that will not go away, and you are cranky for most of the day.

At Humdrum Espresso, you will not be disappointed, I have my coffee, what I call a short black with hot water to the side, and my other half has a small latte, but you must put a teaspoon of sugar in it when you make it, a far cry from 3 teaspoons so many years ago. The little Samm 8yr old (spend all my money) has a hot chocolate with no froth, and he is more fussy than I am.

My coffee comes out with a small glass of sparkling water, sometimes it is flavoured with Jasmine, just have a sip of it, before your coffee, and it will cleanse your palate. All on a wooden tray, A nice touch! My other half, coffee arrives, with a small biscuit to the side, always a nice touch, and she says it is so smooth. But, what really impresses me, is that they give you a card to let you know what you are drinking, with where it was grown and at altitude it was. They are serious about their coffee.

They also sell, fresh bread, and pastries, and beautiful fresh muffins. I do recommend this place to you all, and it is worthwhile to make the short detour going past Edmund on the Bruce Highway. Eumundi is famous for the Markets that are held there every Wednesday and Saturday, but go there any day without the markets being on, and you will get a car park, no problem. They also have a few car parks behind the shop.
